Loss of balance can occur in people of all ages, and can have a huge impact on levels of independence and the confidence to participate in everyday activities.

Balance can be impacted by a range of different means, including:

  • Musculoskeletal injury, causing an altered walking pattern or weakness in a particular limb
  • Neuromuscular conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease and Parkinson’s
  • Neurological issues that may occur after suffering a stroke or brain injury
  • The ageing process, which can impact on proprioception and motor control
  • Issues with hearing and the inner ear
  • Loss of muscle mass, through a sedentary lifestyle or long periods of inactivity.

Our Exercise Physiologist can design a program specific to improving balance and reducing the risk of falls in people of all ages. These programs can be:

  • Supervised individual or group exercise classes, completed in our exercise facilities at Oakden or Toorak Gardens. These sessions use a variety of equipment to build leg strength, challenge balance and improve proprioception. It is highly recommended to begin with these sessions to ensure your safety as you complete the exercises; our Accredited Exercise Physiologist will ensure you are never placed at any risk.
  • Individually-tailored home exercise programs with regular reviews to ensure that you are improving and progressing in your balance exercises.
