One of the most common questions I hear is: do I have to have a total hip or knee replacement to do hydrotherapy?

The answer is: No!

In hydrotherapy, we can treat a wide range of conditions including chronic back pain, rotator cuff weakness in the shoulder, fibromyalgia and arthritis. The reason we can treat such a wide variety of conditions is because the benefits of hydrotherapy are vast.

Hydrotherapy has been shown to assist with:

  • Pain relief
  • Reduction in muscle spasm
  • Increased joint range of motion
  • Strengthening of weak muscles
  • Increased circulation
  • Improvement of balance and co-ordination

Wow! I know I don’t need any other reasons to encourage you to come to hydrotherapy. You’ve probably already called up and booked both you and your significant other in with you…however there is one more quality of hydrotherapy I want you to know about.

Hydrotherapy is a fantastic way to get fit. Water aerobics is becoming as big as kale in the last few years! Instead of going for a run or a walk-up Mt Lofty, why not try using hydrotherapy to increase your heart rate and kick off those extra kilos.

Simply tell your physiotherapist you are interested in using hydrotherapy to get fit and they can give you exercises to get your heart racing and your muscles burning! And that’s not even the best part! Since you are surrounded by warm, soothing water you are in a safe environment with minimal chance of injury!

So, head on down to one of our hydrotherapy classes where we improve your cardiovascular fitness, getting more oxygen to get to your muscles so you not only feel fantastic but your body is thanking you for it!
