ourapproach_measure-your-performance

Measure your performance

Our expert Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists prescribe, structure, implement and supervise exercise to help meet your rehabilitation program and your exercise or fitness goals. Baseline measurements of your function or performance and periodic re-evaluation of these measures, guide your exercise program setup and help to monitor your progress.

ourapproach_understand-your-condition

Understand your condition

Sometimes, you can only really understand the true nature and extent of your problem, how and why it has occurred and what is required to fix it, once you have some concrete measures of your own body’s functional abilities and performance levels. We will identify your functional deficits and explain how and why the proposed treatment will help you recover.

ourapproach_right-exercise

Do the right exercise!

Measuring your functional performance allows us to select the right exercise for your program and TARGET YOUR PROBLEM area. Baseline measurement of your functional abilities helps to:

  1. Identify and target your areas of exercise /rehabilitation need, especially once your pain has resolved.
  2. Clarify clinical diagnosis in some cases.
  3. Identify and set realistic goals and expectations.
  4. Select appropriate exercise type, intensity and components for you and your program.
  5. Structure your exercise program to be safe and effective.
  6. Achieve your goals or desired outcomes.
ourapproach_functional-performance

Functional performance measurement

Our therapists select appropriate methods for measurement of functional performance [exercise assessment / outcome measurement] according to individual exercise and rehabilitation goals and relevant timeframes. Assessment methods include a range of activity questionnaires or objective measures of function including strength, aerobic fitness, endurance, agility, postural tolerance, lifting capacity or balance.   We will reassess these functional measures at appropriate intervals to monitor your response and progress.

ourapproach_track-your-progress

Track your progress

We track progress in meeting your rehabilitation or fitness goals by re-evaluating measures of functional performance at strategic points. This helps to:

  1. Ensure exercise is at the right level for your abilities.
  2. Identify opportunities to upgrade your exercise.
  3. Provide feedback where required and helpful.
  4. Motivate you in pursuit of exercise and rehabilitation goals.
  5. Achieve set goals and desired results.
  6. Maximise your potential outcomes.

ourapproach_experience-expertise

Experience and expertise

Success with exercise programs is not guaranteed! Commencement of an exercise program to fix an identified musculoskeletal problem or rehabilitate an injury is a difficult process and is often under-estimated in its complexity. Careful planning, good communication, teamwork and persistence is required to overcome barriers and achieve goals.  At aim Physiotherapy and Eastside Pilates, we have the experience and expertise to guide and support you to achieve a successful resolution of your pain and injury problems. We identify your functional deficits and goals, design a suitable exercise program, teach you to exercise safely and effectively, supervise your performance and upgrade your program when appropriate. Our highly qualified team members are experts in their field.

ourapproach_methods

OUR methods

Our methods involve NON-SURGICAL and DRUG-FREE interventions. We focus on manual therapy, including joint mobilisation, stretching and remedial massage, education and exercise, to help restore normal pain-free, movement and function and to optimise health, fitness or physical conditioning.

Our experience is that an active approach to rehabilitation is required for success and some exercise will be required of you to assist or complete your recovery. We explain how the exercise helps and why. In this way, we fix the root cause of your problems, not just relieve your symptoms for a while.

Your exercise program may target mobility, strength and conditioning, core stability, cardiovascular fitness, pain management, weight loss, bone health, ballance, falls prevention or a combination of these factors.

ourapproach_recovery

Recovery

Timeframes for recovery can vary depending on the individual, the circumstances and the problem severity. Chronic conditions respond more slowly than acute conditions and a modified approach is required. Correcting and restoring postural alignment and muscular balance can take some time. Our team will support you throughout this journey. Disruption to your treatment plan or an inconsistent approach may prevent timely progression and recovery. Determination, persistence and patience is required for all successful rehabilitation.

ourapproach_physiology

Exercise Physiology

Accredited Exercise Physiologists* (AEPs) are allied health professionals with the highest level of training for prescribing exercise to individuals. AEPs hold, at a minimum, a 4-year bachelor degree that meets the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) Level 7 requirements*. This equips AEPs with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions for people who have acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries and disabilities. These interventions include health and physical activity education, advice and support, and lifestyle modification with a strong focus on achieving behavioural change [ESSA, 2017].
